Adult Down Syndrome Center: Celebrating 25 years of holistic care

Advocate Medical Group’s Adult Down Syndrome Center, located at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., is celebrating 25 years of service in 2017.

The Center was established on January 17, 1992, in an effort to better support and enhance the well-being of adolescents and adults with Down syndrome. When the Center first opened, it was a twice-a-month clinic housed in one of the hospital’s medical buildings.

Over the past 25 years, the Center has grown into a primary care practice with more than 7,500 patient visits annually and is housed in a new, 6,500 square-foot facility expressly designed for patients with Down syndrome. The Center is nationally recognized for their team approach that provides comprehensive, holistic, community-based health care services.

It is through the help and partnerships of families, community members, businesses and advocacy groups that we have been able to expand services, develop new programs, provide community outreach and conduct research.

  1. What a blessing to have this incredible resource for so many as part of Advocate!

  2. I belong to a group of quilters who make quilts for donations, can the facility use these quilts?
    Thank you

  3. I am a Registered Nurse, and have worked with developmentally disabled adults since 1991. I started visiting the ADSC shortly after they opened with my clients. I have never met a group of medical personnel so kind, thorough, and dedicated to a special needs population anywhere, ever! My only wish, is that their services expanded into other DD population areas, which are far and few between. These are true angels here, and I can’t thank you enough for all the years of kindness and caring you have provided selflessly.

    Congratulations on 25 years!!

  4. The professionalism of all who operate this center is beyond anything that I have experienced with my daughter, Jennifer. From the first time of meeting Shirley, the Drs, nurses and aides, Jen would get excited to visit the clinic! Everyone joins in to treat all aspects of each patient and their family. Dr Chicoine is primo! Jennifer (and myself) have been treated with impeccable care; Not as a person with challenges, but as a person who is loved..
Thank you for all that you do

My aunt has been a patient here since i can remember at least 10 years now, she has never been treated with such great care, respect, but however just love in anyother of medical facilities she’s need care of. The staff has nothing but the upmost professionalsism and compassion for the DS community, especially Dr. Dominiack.

  6. Loved it! God bless I all. Merry Xmas enjoy life today and everyday.
