7.10.17 On This Date In 1962, the U.S. Patent Office issued a patent for a three-point safety belt to Nils Bohlin, a Swedish engineer employed by Volvo. At that time, ‘seat belts’ were mainly limited to race cars. They would soon become standard in vehicles worldwide.
