#KylieJennerChallenge: A serious health threat to teens

From dying their hair to wearing the same style of clothing, some teens do the craziest things to look like their favorite celebrity, but a new trend is taking celebrity copy-catting to a whole new level.

Teens are going to extreme lengths to get the lips of Kylie Jenner, the youngest of the Kardashian sisters, which is trending on Twitter with the hashtag #kyliejennerchallenge. To create her full lips, teens are using glass bottles or shot glasses and sucking in the air like a vacuum.

The result will cause a person’s lips to expand and puff up, and although this seems trendy and a better option than plastic surgery, there are some serious consequences.

Teens are experiencing extreme bruising around their lips, or very bad redness and irritation, according to news reports. One person even claimed that a jar broke and cut her lip.

“Teens can do significant damage to their lips,” says Dr. Lawrence Iteld, plastic surgeon with Advocate Physicians Partners. “This is especially true if the pressure breaks the glass and cuts their lips, which could require stitches and lead to permanent, and even disfiguring scarring. This is a terrible idea.”
