Alisa’s story: How cancer made her love her chest

Alisa’s breast cancer was found during her annual mammogram when she was 42 years old. She opted for a double mastectomy and breast reconstruction with breast surgeon, Dr. Rosalinda Alvarado, and plastic and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Lawrence Iteld, at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago. Today, Alisa has no signs of cancer, and she says she’s even happier with the way she looks now than before her diagnosis.

  1. Alisa, thank you for sharing your inspiring story! I’ve known quite a few women who have gone through breast cancer and usually think of it as such a sad time, even when they have beat it. Your experience is such an uplifting one and you feel you look even better now – how cool is that?? Like the song goes, what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger!

Thank you again for sharing with us.

  2. Strong Work Alisa- I too am a breast cancer survivor- now 18 years! I still remember those early days when you’re sorting things out! I am glad we’ve moved forward with bilateral mastectomies- they weren’t doing that when I had my surgery and treatment in “the dark ages” so my chest is lopsided. Not ready to go under the knife again but maybe- Glad other women are able to choose that option!
Enjoy your new beaufiful chest and promising life ahead!
