Health care heroes: A team of warriors

“The team members at South Sub are warriors,” says Dr. Travis Matics, a pediatric critical care physician at Advocate Children’s Hospital. “Day-in and day-out they have consistently been challenged and have risen to meet the need of so many patients on the South Side of Chicago.”

Dr. Travis and five other pediatric critical care physicians have stepped up to help their colleagues caring for COVID-19 adult patients in the medical intensive care at Advocate South Suburban Hospital.

The ACH physicians are Drs. Matics, Deanna Behrens, Kara Von Zychlin, Amanda Ellis-Pelletier, Rani Ganesan and Vinod Havalad.  While some are praising the pediatric physicians for joining in the adult COVID-19 fight, they say it is the South Sub team that deserves all the accolades.

“I am so grateful and honored to be working with a fantastic team there,” says Dr. Deanna Behrens. “They are the true heroes of this – they are there every day in difficult conditions, yet they found the time to be nothing but gracious and welcoming to us!”

“I’m just happy to have an opportunity to support our Advocate Aurora Health colleagues,” says Dr. Vinod Havalad. “We are just helping to relieve the immense workload that our adult colleagues are under. I know they would do the same for us.”
