Why women should embrace their java

Coffee lovers rejoice and celebrate with an extra cup today! New research is showing yet another way coffee can keep you well.

In a recent study, published in Cancer, Epidemiology, Biomarkers and Prevention, women who drank three cups of coffee a day reduced their risk of developing endometrial cancer by 19 percent, compared to women who drank less than one cup. For those who drank four cups a day, their risk decreased by 18 percent.

“Coffee intake is worth investigating further to see if coffee can be used for the prevention of endometrial cancer,” said Dr. Melissa Merritt of Imperial College London, in a news release. “However, before clinical recommendations can be made, further studies are needed to evaluate this question in other studies and to try to isolate the components of coffee that may be responsible for any influence on endometrial cancer.”

One in 37 women will develop endometrial cancer during their lifetime, according to the American Cancer Society, and approximately 10,000 die from the disease each year.

Over the past few years several studies have found numerous health benefits of coffee, from improving heart health to lowering one’s risk of liver cancer and reducing the risk of diabetes.

“Coffee contains antioxidants, which help to prevent any chronic disease,” says Michelle Remkus, a dietitian at the Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Center in Downers Grove, Ill. “At only two calories per cup, without cream and sugar, coffee is a guilt-free, low calorie beverage.”

Everything in moderation…this probably does not mean we can drink 4 ventis! 🙂

  3. Guilt free??? Excuse me, but what about the cumulative and/or negative effects of ongoing caffeine intake? It’s NOT good for many many people, especially those with hypertension, CHF, and so on!!! I’m surprised an RD would give coffee such a thumbs up!!!!
