During National Nurses Week, May 6-12, take time to recognize a nurse who has played a powerful role in your life. Patients, teammates and local communities are positively impacted each day by a nurse’s passion and devotion to nursing excellence. Meet some of our Advocate Health Care and Aurora Health Care nurses who are making an impact:

Maria Perez Garcia:

Born in Mexico City, Garcia and her family came to the U.S. when she was 8 years old and settled in Milwaukee, Wis. While in nursing school, she volunteered as an interpreter for Spanish-speaking patients at Aurora Walker’s Point Community Clinic before becoming a registered nurse. Read more.

Kristin Hromada

When she was 9 years old, her father suddenly passed away after experiencing sudden cardiac death. Hromada’s fond memories of her late father inspire her to bring smiles to patients’ faces in her progressive care unit — even in the beginning of the pandemic. Read more.

Ian and Leah Dela Merced

Nursing is a family affair for these Advocate Sherman Hospital nurses. Working just down the hall from each other, both quickly realized they were in the right profession early on in their careers and continue to bond over their mutual passion for helping others. Read more.

Nichole Lauf

As a registered nurse and co-clinical nursing instructor, Lauf is committed to mentoring and guiding new nurses as they enter the field. Learn her role in the program that aims to support the next generation of highly skilled ‘home-grown’ workers and remove workforce barriers in critical industries such as nursing. Read more.

Nicole Jackson

Jackson is being recognized as a hero by the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago for going above and beyond to ensure a patient received a fast and safe transport. Despite just completing a double shift, she jumped in an ambulance to help the critically wounded, unstable patient without hesitation. Read more.

Kristian Stang

Stang makes a point to celebrate each person’s differences by recognizing and complimenting their uniqueness — both inside and outside of the hospital. He also is a champion of diversity, compassion and comradery among his teammates. Stang is known for creating new ideas for team bonding such as being the organizer of a softball league and fundraisers. Read more.
